Main duties of the jobThe ideal candidate would be a fully qualified Registered General Nurse with the following skills:
Essential: Vaccinations & Immunisations; Cervical Screening; Wound Care
Desireable: Diabetes; COPD
About usWe are a large GP practice in Middlesbrough with 9 GP partners, 5 salaried GPs, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 4 Practice Nurses, 2 HCAs, 2 phlebotomists. We have a superb group of highly committed and enthusiastic administrative and reception staff.
Our practice is part of Holgate Primary Care Network who support our practice, with roles including physiotherapy, pharmacists, mental health practitioners and our centralised urgent care hub team.
We're situated close to the town centre with a list size of over 20,000 patients and operate from purpose built premises in Linthorpe and a branch surgery situated in the North Ormesby Health Village.
Job responsibilitiesJob summary:
The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of the practice.
Job responsibilities:
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- Provision of chronic disease management clinics
- Cytology
- Wound care / ulcer care / Doppler
- Removal of Sutures
- ECGs
- Asthma / Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
- Venepuncture
- Hypertension Management
- Provision of general nursing duties, e.g. dressings, ear syringing, etc.
- Routine immunisations / Childhood immunisations
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Contraception
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to nurse manager or GPs as appropriate
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses
- Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
- Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of room
- Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any meetings when required.
