Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Aintree for dynamic Staff Nurses to join our established team of highly motivated and committed nursing staff within Our Stroke Emergency Assessment Centre. The unit area offer a supportive working environment alongside opportunities to develop individual clinical competence. It is an excellent unit to learn if you are starting your nursing career and to continue to develop your knowledge base, if you have more experience. Providing high quality nursing care within the unit the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, team working skills and dedicated to improving the patients experience. You will need to demonstrate continuing professional development and a strong commitment to develop others and work closely within a Multi-disciplinary team. Full time post. Day and night work.

Main duties of the job
Working with in a emergency setting. Working alongside stroke nurse clinicians, Stroke Consultants, radiologists. Working closely with MDT team. The successful candidate must be driven to develop new skills and knowledge whilst always keeping the patient at the centre of what they do. They must be a positive role model and lead by example. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, have a flexible working approach and a willingness to work as part of a forward thinking team, as well as a strong commitment to ensuring a positive hospital experience for patients and their relatives/carers.

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.

Job responsibilities
  • Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
  • Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care. Informs the nurse incharge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
  • Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.
  • Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
  • Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
  • Providing information and support to patients/carers, and ensuring all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patients condition.
  • Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
  • To develop the clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned route.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
  • Diploma in Nursing
Desirable
  • Mentorship/teaching qualification
  • Post registration qualification in relevant specialty

Experience
Essential
  • Post registration experience and successful completion of band 5 foundation gateway competencies Recent acute hospital experience (including as a student nurse)
  • Experience within relevant clinical setting
  • Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment.
  • Evidence of working with students
Desirable
  • Recent acute hospital experience (including as a student nurse)

Knowledge
Essential
  • Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance
  • Demonstrates awareness of own limitations

Skills

  • Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
