Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen on ward 8b Medical Directorate at Liverpool University Hospital (New Royal site) for a dynamic, committed, compassionate and highly enthusiastic staff nurse to join a hardworking and close knit team.

The post is for a full time position to work 34.5 hours per week on internal rotation. Shifts consist of long days, early shifts/late shifts and night shifts. Ward 8b is a 28 bedded mixed ward with three specialities palliative care, haematology (non oncology) and general medicine. Training will be provided.

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team caring for patient and undertaking delegated tasks from the ward manager/ward sister with the opportunity to improve and expand on your clinical knowledge.

On 8b there is a supportive, friendly team making staff feel valued and motivated. We put patients at the heart of all that we do and working collaboratively to deliver the very best for our patients. There is an excellent preceptorship programme designed to facilitate efficient development of competence, confidence and expertise. Support will be given at a clinical level by a Preceptor, and from a wider organisational structure including the Preceptorship Lead, Clinical Skills team and Learning and Development. You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills.

Job responsibilities
Participate in maintaining safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.

Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care. Informs the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may effect patient care.

Maintaining nursing recorded in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines

Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical bench marking within the unit.

Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.

Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
