Job summary

Main duties of the job

• Taking Blood pressure
• Blood glucose monitoring.
• Venepuncture.
• Patient observations including, oxygen saturations, heart rate, respirations.
• Swabbing to include MRSA
• Obtain samples including urine dip, from a catheter, MSU.
• ECG recording.
• Undertaking quality assurance checks of machines used for point of care testing.

Education and Qualification
Essential

• Completed Care Certificate or equivalent experience . Functional skills minimum Level 1 Maths and English or GCSE or equivalent experience . Bedside Emergency Assessment Course for HCA's (BEACH) or willingness to undertake. . Level 3 Health Care qualification/apprenticeship or equivalent relevant experience or completion of HCSW competency-based workbook .

Desirable

• oFurther qualifications and training relevant and required by the speciality of this post . Competencies for existing substantive HCSW

Knowledge and experience
Essential

• Experience of working in Acute Hospital setting or care background, in a HCSW role or equivalent . Experience of delivering personal care to patients . Experience of using computers or willing to undertake training in local computer systems . Knowledge of basic IT systems or willing to undertake training . Knowledge of care and related procedures and relevant legislation . Ability to demonstrate knowledge of data protection and health and safety issues

Desirable

• Awareness of changing agenda within NHS . Evidence of continuing professional development . Previous experience of complex health needs . Competently perform a range if the core skills relevant to the area of speciality
