Job summaryThe post holder will assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of patient care in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner. Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process. Act as a mentor/preceptor to junior staff, with specific responsibility for pre-registration students.
The post holder will take delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical team and the maintenance of high standards of quality patient care on a shift basis.
Main duties of the jobVacancies have arisen for Band 5 Staff Nurses within the Cardiac Catheter Suite at MFT (Wythenshawe and MRI). The 9 Catheter Labs at MRI and Wythenshawe Hospitals form part of the North West Regional Cardiology service. It is one of the busiest in the country, performing in excess of 5500 procedures a year from Pacemakers to Implantable Defibrilators, Cardiac Ablations and Angioplasty. The Two hospital sites are working in unison to develop a single cardiac service across the Trust.
A strong commitment to our team is essential for this post and a broad range of nursing experience in Cardiology or another acute area is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. . A full comprehensive training package will be provided and a mentor will assist in the individual needs of the successful candidates.
In the Catheter lab we are aware of the need for flexible working. Working patterns are presently Monday to Friday with occasional weekend shifts. On completion of your competency programme, the post holder will be required to undertake some on-calls as part of our 24 hour emergency team.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- First level registration - Registered Nurse
Desirable- Teaching Qualification
- Degree level study
KNOWLEDGEEssential- Knowledge of clinical governance
- IT/ Word Processing
- Evidence of good understanding of Cardiac anatomy and procedures undertaken in cath labs
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEEssential- Ability to supervise and support junior staff.
- Evidence of teaching and assessing skills/ability.
- Previous recent Cath lab Experience
Desirable- Evidence undertaking a mentor/preceptor role
