About the roleMid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to advertise this 12 month fixed term post aimed at doctors who are passionate about their practice and their career outside traditional models. Our posts will combine education and career development with practical patient-facing care.
This post is not a recognised UK training posts. Nevertheless, MYDoc doctors will have a named supervisor and be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities to consolidate and develop alongside their experiential learning, with certificated outcomes or credentialing to support career progression through other routes.
An Introduction to the Division/SpecialtyThe OMFS department includes Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and the Community Dental Service. Our OMFS team is made up of enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals supported a dedicated specialty-secretariat, with office and networked computer facilities.
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service currently has 5 consultants, 4 Specialty Doctors, 2 Specialty Registrars and 11 core trainees. The Orthodontic clinical team includes 3 consultants, 3 specialty registrars and 2 orthodontic therapist.
The Community Dental Services cares for the population of Wakefield and District and work across 5 sites. The team comprises of 2 Consultants in Paediatric Dentistry, 2 Senior Dental Officers and 2 Dental Officers.
We have excellent facilities across all our sites with up to date clinical, operating and teaching equipment. Our acute service and our in-patient services are based in modern and spacious facilities at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, and we provide out-patient and day services on our Dewsbury Hospital and Pontefract Hospital sites.
Main dutiesThe main duties of the post will include:
- Provision of care to patients in the Oral & Maxillofacial service
- Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate
- Out-patient activities/clinics dependent on the needs of patients
- Involvement in relevant multi-disciplinary teams and meetings
- Involvement in relevant administration duties
- Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate
- Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities
Essential person specification requirementsTo meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
- Full GDC Registration with licence to practise
- Dental Degree from recognised dental school
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Completed at least four years full time hospital service junior or higher grade since first obtaining full or limited registration, including a minimum 2 year experience in Oral Surgery
- Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving
- Good time management
- Possesses good communication skills. Flexibility Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies
- Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies
