Job summary
We are seeking a full time (10PAs) Specialty Doctor post in CAMHS based at Shropshire, working alongside the Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established CAMHS service and to gain experience in the assessment and management of young people with mental health difficulties in a community setting.

The service accepts referrals for young people up to 25 years of age who are registered with a local GP. The team accepts referrals for young people where it is suspected that they may have a Mental Health Disorder. The Multi-disciplinary team provides assessment and treatment for young people and their families.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will provide general medical services within their areas of competence. This will include routine physical examination and health monitoring. There will be a need to assess physical health problems as they arise and arrange treatment or where appropriate liaison with or referral to secondary health care.
  • To receive referrals and undertake a full assessment of all referred patients.
  • The post-holder will be expected to assess and manage patients suffering from a range of Mental Health Conditions. Management will include both pharmacological and psychological treatments. The post-holder will be expected to carry out a full medical assessment, perform a mental state examination and perform a physical examination when appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment

Desirable
  • Approval under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act

Skills
Essential
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge and experience - capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to child and adolescent mental health
  • Clinical Judgement - experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
