Job summary
This role will be supported by a £12,000 relocation allowance.

The Trust is seeking a specialty doctor to join our Forensic Community Team service based in Norwich. The role offers the opportunity to provide specialised psychiatric care to patients with mental disorders who have offended to pose a high risk of harm. Secure and Forensic Services for NSFT are rated as Good by the CQC. We provide a wide and growing body of clinical services operating in a variety of settings linked to criminal justice services.

Main duties of the job
Assisting with discharge of patients from secure and in-patient care. Facilitating step-down care from medium or low secure units, supporting patients with severe mental illnesses living in the community, and preventing hospital readmission. The specialty doctor is expected to provide critical psychiatric care to mentally disordered offenders. They lead risk assessments, manage caseloads, prevent relapses, and coordinate with multi-agency teams, including probation and police, to safely integrate patients into society and prevent reoffending.

Qualifications
Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent qualification

Desirable
  • MRCPsych
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.

Eligibility
Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Transport
Essential
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

Clinical Skills, Knoweldge & Experience
Essential
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA

Desirable
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service

Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
