Job summary
We are looking for enthusiastic, BABCP accredited and experienced CBT therapists to join NHS Enfield Talking Therapies Service as a Senior CBT therapist. We are a well-established and highly regarded service with a strong track record for staff retention, development and wellbeing. The service is provided by the North London Foundation Trust. We work closely with our partner Services in Barnet, Camden and Islington.

You will be part of a large team of CBT Therapists, PWPs, counsellors, trainees and administrators who are working to increase access to treatment for people with depression, anxiety and other common mental health conditions and making changes in line with national KPIs for Talking Therapies. The postholder will be supported by the Deputy Clinical Lead and Clinical Lead for the service and have peer support from an experienced senior team.

You will be responsible for clinical and managerial supervision of staff, take on a lead role in an area of service development and also carry a small clinical caseload.

Applicants are advised that we operate a hybrid working policy which means postholders are expected to come on site to our base (2-3 days a week) and combine this with remote working. For this vacancy we specifically require someone to be on-site on Wednesdays and Fridays until 5pm.

The postholder will also be expected to support senior management cover as required including evening clinics that run from 8.00 am - 8.00 pm.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide leadership, highly specialised clinical supervision and expert psychological assessment and treatment within an NHS Talking Therapies service specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Counselling.
  • To offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to colleagues
  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
  • To participate in and lead on service related research and audit projects, service development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • To also work with the senior management team to deliver Talking Therapies key performance indicators.
  • To be responsible for line management and performance of staff supervised.
  • To support the management of the day to day operations of the service alongside other senior management team members.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that falls under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, or Islington. Training and qualifications
Essential
  • Core mental health professional training in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Psychotherapy or equivalent, together with post degree diploma level training in CBT or Completion of a recognised High Intensity training course provided by an BABCP approved Higher Education provider (e.g. Royal Holloway)
  • CBT Therapist accreditation with the BABCP.

Desirable
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology or equivalent
  • Post graduate training in Long Term Conditions/ Health psychology or other areas of relevance to NHS Talking Therapies.

Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrable experience in providing CBT assessments and treatments across a range of severities and presentations.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Substantial experience of providing formal clinical supervision to CBT Therapists.
  • Training in supervision
  • Experience of line management including performance management
  • Experience of case management
  • Experience of clinical supervision of both qualified therapists and therapists in training.

Desirable
  • Experience of using alternative therapeutic modalities such as BCT, EMDR, IPT in clinical settings
  • Experience of working as a clinical psychologist, HI or CBT therapist within secondary care or specialist psychological services.
  • Experience of working within a multicultural framework and with diversity.
  • Experience of IAPTUS and RiO.
  • Experience of involvement in service development
  • Experience of using data to inform line management or supervision

Knowledge and Skills
Essential
  • Demonstrable interest in developing knowledge and skills in CBT post qualification.
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • An ability to formulate and provide NICE compliant treatment for clients with moderate-severe mental health difficulties and those with complex presentations.
  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in primary care and step2/step 3.
  • High level knowledge of the theory and practice of CBT and NICE recommended treatment models
  • Knowledge of legislation and NHS policy in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Post degree level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis.

Other
Essential
  • Knowledge of key aspects of clinical governance as relating to NHS Talking Therapies and NHS practice more generally.

Desirable
  • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
