Health Care Assistants are a vital part of our team providing support to the registered nurses with providing patient care to people who are ready to be discharged from the hospital.

Main duties of the jobWe are excited to advertise for a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant for the Discharge Lounge.
We take patients from across the hospital who are ready to be discharged.
You will also be responsible for collecting patients from wards and the Emergency Department; stocking up the department and assisting patients with aspects of care.
About usPriority will be given to colleagues identified as at risk through the Trust's redeployment process.
Job responsibilitiesTo assist registered nursing staff in providing a high standard of nursing care within the Discharge Lounge. To act as support to nursing colleagues with the provision of administration and organisational duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- To assist with the provision of nursing care
- To communicate effectively and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- To maintain own standards of care Practice
- Ensure patients and relatives needs are met in a courteous, helpful and compassionate manner.
- Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.
- Assist the qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.
- Prepare patients for examination or treatment.
- Assist patients where needed with the provision of beverages or meals.
- Assist with the general cleaning and stocking up of all areas where appropriate.
- Carry out minor dressings and treatments at the direction of qualified staff.
- Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.
- To undertake any duties and actions in front of the patient in such a manner as to ensure a positive professional image is conveyed.
- To adhere to all hospital policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Demonstrate a courteous and polite approach to patients, relatives and colleagues.
- Assist with the undertaking of clinical routine audits e.g. high impact intervention
- Develop clinical skills under the guidance of a designated mentor consistent with the needs of patient care in the department.
- Attend statutory training sessions.
- Highlight any identified training needs to team leader.
- Ensure all relevant competencies are up to date
- Use the computer system to access or retrieve patient data.
- Perform PAS clinic bookings & attendance in the absence of the ward clerk.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the need to track and account for all activity.
- Assist in e track coding.
- Handle patient and relative enquiries, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
- Ensure any procedures undertaken are correctly documented.
- Demonstrate a good telephone manner and be able to clearly communicate appointment information over the telephone.
Person SpecificationEducation/QualificationsEssential- Maths and English skills equivalent to Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy
Desirable- NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health-related subject
- Completion of Care Certificate
ExperienceEssential- Experience caring for others or providing customer service
- Experience of working within a team
Desirable- Experience of caring for patients in an acute setting
Skills/Ability & KnowledgeEssential- Ability to communicate clearly in English in writing, via IT, verbally and using the telephone
