Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for this band 6 Specialist BMS role in the Clinical Biochemistry Department at Charing Cross Hospital Automation laboratory.

We are seeking a self-motivated and suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist with strong post registration experience, along with an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent demonstrable specialist knowledge and experience.

Although we are recruiting for a Band 6 Specialist BMS in Clinical Biochemistry, if a suitable Band 6 candidate is not appointed, the post may be offered under Annex U, with progression to Band 6 on successful completion of the relevant IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

As both biochemistry and serology assays are performed on same platforms, you will be expected to rotate through Serology section upon completion of appropriate training and competency.

The laboratory is covered for 24 hours seven days a week and you would be expected to participate in the late/weekend shifts and contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients in the Trust hospitals. Staff are also expected to work across our six hospital sites when required.It is an essential requirement that applicants are HCPC state registered with a significant post registration experience in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory.

Main duties of the job

• Collaborate with colleagues to enhance service quality and uphold departmentalstandards, while monitoring staff performance.
• Actively participate in local and divisional laboratory meetings, contributing to serviceexcellence and operational efficiency, and fostering professional relationships for effective collaboration.
• Stay informed on departmental changes and developments and communicate complexinformation clearly to staff.
• Provide and receive complex information to colleagues and external contacts, offering advice and explanations as needed.
• Ensure timely reporting of incidents following NWLP Health and Safety procedures.
• Achieve proficiency in designated diagnostic areas to provide high-quality laboratoryservices to patients and staff.
• Perform tasks autonomously, making informed decisions while consulting senior ormedical staff as needed.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

• Biomedical Science degree or equivalent which is acceptable by the IBMS /HPC for registration
• HCPC Registration and clear understanding of Code of Conduct and Professional Standards of the HCPC
• IBMS Specialist Diploma or demonstrate the equivalent depth and breadth of knowledge in the relevant discipline evidenced by competency documents or equivalent
• Actively involved in Continuing Professional Development
