This role is a hybrid role where you will split your role between Acute Medicine and Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). The split will between areas is negotiable and can be discussed at interview and job planning.
You will be an integral part of the Acute Medical Team and the Medical SDEC team at the Royal Oldham Hospital working alongside an experienced team of consultants and junior / resident medical staff. The post will be will also include some in-reach into the Accident and Emergency Department.
There may also be opportunities to pursue non acute medicine specialty interest.
This post does not include any on-call commitments although they can be added on an ad-hoc or rota basis if desired.
Main duties of the jobAcute Medical UnitThe post holder will be expected to take part in the assessment and management of acute patients admitted to the AMU. This will include taking part in the daily assessment of patients, initiating management plans for these patients and performing procedures (under supervision if needed). This may also include the management of patients requiring non-invasive ventilation and CPAP.
Medical SDECAs a senior clinical decision maker you will work with experienced doctors, Advanced Care Practitioners, Physician Associates and senior nurses to screen and accept referrals from the Emergency Department, General Practitioners, North West Ambulance Service and community services including the Urgent Care Response team and Hospital and Care at Home. The caseload encompasses a broad range of ambulatory care-sensitive medical conditions for which you will provide clinical assessments, formulate investigation and management plans and offer safe onward referral or discharge.You may also assist in co-ordination the care of patients assessed by other practitioners, offering your knowledge and advice in support of the department outside usual office hours. Specialist advice will be available, where necessary, from supportive colleagues in Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Rheumatology, Neurology and Medicine for the Elderly; you may also be involved in the medical management of frailty syndromes and offer co-ordination of a multi-disciplinary assessment

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Completed at least 4 years full time hospital service in specialities allied to Acute Medicine since first obtaining full registration
- MRCP part 1 and 2
Desirable- Adult life support provider
ExperienceEssential- Relevant experience in other specialties that would complement a career in Acute Medicine.
- Knowledge of the workings of the NHS. Good organisational skills and time management.
