Description

Job summary
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's Department of Acute Medicine is looking to grow it's team and are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and committed Consultants in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine to join the team at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. Applications are welcomed on a full-time or part-time basis, for those with or without a specialist interest (we already have a small cohort of Infectious Diseases consultants who are also looking to expand alongside this post).

This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading emergency care hospitals, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to adults presenting with a wide range of acute medical conditions. The successful candidates will play a key leadership role within a dynamic and innovative Acute Medicine service, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the timely assessment, diagnosis and management of patients.

The post holder's primary responsibility will be to provide clinical and medical leadership for the Acute Medical Units (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) services, supporting the delivery of safe and efficient patient pathways. They will contribute to the continued development of acute medicine services, promote excellence in patient care, and support service improvement.

Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy prior to the closing date once the required number of suitable applications have been received.

Main duties of the job
Full details of the role are within the attached job description and applicants are invited to speak with our Consultant Head of Service for further information.

The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service, and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.

A typical week would consist of up to 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), including a minimum allocation of 1.5 SPAs for Supporting Professional Activities. Additional SPAs will be available dependent upon service need. There are additional PAs available for Education and Clinical supervision with 0.25 for first trainee and 0.125 for each subsequent trainee thereafter

The Trust supports requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal Colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. Further SPA activity will be agreed at job planning depending upon service needs (if the appointees were to undertake additional responsibilities in activities such as teaching, training or educational supervision, for example).

The Specialist Emergency Care Hospital will require Consultant Medical Staff to participate in 7 day working as part of their normal working pattern. Your normal working pattern will be agreed with you locally as part of your job plan and this may consist of shifts of variable working hours including evenings and weekends.

About us
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country.
