Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Sexual Health Department Leader to provide leadership and management for a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality sexual health services across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The successful candidate will be a visible and compassionate leader with a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care, developing staff, and driving continuous improvement. You will have strong communication, organisational and leadership skills, the ability to manage change and resources effectively, and a passion for creating a positive, inclusive culture where both patients and staff can thrive. The service is delivered from the main hubs, GU Medicine at Nottingham City Hospital, Retford Hospital, spoke clinics and outreach venues across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
This role involves working across multiple NUH sites within the Sexual Health service, including Retford and Worksop, in accordance with the agreed job plan.
Main duties of the job
As the Sexual Health Department Leader, you will be responsible for leading and supporting registered and non-registered staff to deliver safe, effective and evidence-based care for patients accessing sexual health services, including those requiring support with sexually transmitted infections, HIV care, contraception and other sexual health needs. You will oversee patient care standards, staffing, budgets, quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance, education and service development, while working closely with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience and outcomes. We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate excellent leadership and people management skills, sound clinical judgement, a commitment to professional development, and the ability to motivate and empower others. The ideal candidate will be approachable, resilient, patient-focused and passionate about fostering a culture of learning, innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
Essential
- Current level one NMC registration
- Professional knowledge acquired through obtaining a degree (BSc Hons in Nursing/health related studies), supplemented by clinical experience.
- Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation (STIF) Integrated or Intermediate
- LoC SDI- IR and/ or LoC IUT or willingness to work towards
- Non-Medical Prescriber or willingness to work towards
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and reflective practice.
Desirable
- STIF Advanced
- Working towards Masters in Nursing/ health related studies.
- Quality Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR) methodology training or equivalent.
Experience
Essential
- Post registration experience within sexual health to include management/leadership experience
- Ability to manage the clinical area and department efficiently and effectively
- Ability to lead change and lead new ways of working
- Experience of working as senior nurse in Sexual Health
Desirable
- Experience supporting audit or research within the clinical area or department.
