Main Duties of the JobA General Practice Assistant (GPA) will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, therefore freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
About UsOur Health Partnership was set up by local GPs who are passionate about providing high quality primary care and using their time and skills effectively to benefit patients. We are currently a GP partnership of 30 practices with 39 sites, serving around 280,000 patients in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and Shropshire. Please note that our head office is located in Cotteridge, but the job role will be based within one of the practices within the MOBY PCN.
Job Responsibilities- Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
- Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes. Supporting with QOF reviews.
- Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
- Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
- Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy
- Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)
- Support the GP with immunisations/wound care
- Support with implementation of personalised care support plans
Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Experience in phlebotomy & wound care
Desirable- Experience of primary care through the GP
- Vocational Training Scheme
- Possession of a care certificate would be preferred
QualificationsEssential- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Full registration with GMC
- Certification of Completion of Training (JCPTGP/PMETB)
- Inclusion on Performers List
- Evidence of a commitment to on-going personal & professional development

- Knowledge of the demographic characteristics that affect health and health care in the area including health inequalities
