Job summary
Band 6 Scanning Radiographer - Full Time- 37.5 hours per week

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the largest specialist orthopaedic Trust in the UK with a world renowned reputation.

We are looking for a flexible and enthusiastic HCPC registered radiographer with good experience in CT, MRI and/or Nuclear Medicine to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will work alongside other staff members to provide an effective and efficient scanning service whilst adhering to departmental protocols and ensuring optimum patient care.

Our department consists of 2 MRI scanners, a 1.5T Siemens Sola, a recently upgraded 3T Philips Ingenia, a Siemens X.Cite CT scanner and a Siemens Intevo Bold SPECT CT scanner. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across all 3 imaging modalities with training given where needed.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for a hardworking, patient focused radiographer to join our friendly team and develop themselves and their skills in orthopaedic cross sectional imaging.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a full part in the scanning department rota, working across modalities to provide high quality diagnostic images whilst ensuring patient care and safety is paramount.

The role will be based in the Scanning Department of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. The department currently runs an extended 6 day a week service with plans to consider 7 day working. On call and out of hours working are also required.

You will work closely with other members of the team including radiologists, radiographers and assistants and will be involved in the teaching of students and more junior members of staff.

You will be an integral part of the smooth running of the department and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and patient groups.

You will be expected to manage your workload effectively, applying knowledge and skill to produce high quality images and adapt techniques to meet complex patient requirements.

About us
The RNOH is a leading institution of international reputation in the field of orthopaedics and is a centre of excellence for complex spinal and MSK oncological treatment.

Within the RNOH the scanning department provides essential imaging services to the Trust and performs over 20,000 scans a year.

The department has enjoyed recent investment enabling us to install a new CT scanner and upgrade our 3T MRI.

By joining our department you will gain experience in complex MSK cross-sectional imaging, image guided interventional procedures and have the opportunity to participate in imaging for research projects.

We are a forward thinking department and run what we believe to be the first MRI hypnotherapy service to support claustrophobic patients.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be clinically responsible to the Consultant Radiologists and be expected to perform a wide range of CT, MRI and Nuclear Medicine examinations.

Working closely with colleagues you will manage the day to day running of the scanners and liaise with other teams and staff members to ensure the effective use of the scanning service.

You will work according to Trust and departmental level protocols and ensure you comply with IRMER18 and IRR17 regulations at all times, ensuring all patient radiation doses are as low as possible and that every exposure is justified.

You will ensure the safety of all patients and staff who enter the MRI environment.

You will be expected to keep accurate patient records and manage patient images on PACS.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • BSc Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience
  • Previous experience in CT or MRI
  • Experience with PACS and CRIS
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise work
  • Good IT skills

Knowledge
  • Clear understanding of Trust values
  • Awareness of clinical governance relevant to role
  • Clear understanding of IRMER/IRR
