Job summary
The Radiology Department is currently undergoing a multimillion projects to redevelop the Interventional Radiology department and the MRI department. Another multimillion pound redevelopment of the A&E department and A&E X-ray services, including an A&E CT scanner, was completed in Autumn 2017. The department actively encourages continued professional development (CPD) and opportunities are available for further training and development.

There are 4 CT scanners which perform complex cardiac and vascular angiography, virtual colonography and specialised hepatobiliary imaging amongst a range of general examinations. There is also a radiographer led nerve root injection list. There are also 4 MRI scanners. The MRI Unit performs a wide range of examinations for all the above specialities, notably for Hepato-biliary, Gastroenterology and Renal Medicine.

The Interventional Radiology and Cardiology department is comprised of 5 dedicated interventional labs. There is a comprehensive interventional service for all specialties within the trust including cardiac, renal, HPB, oncology and vascular. An Artis Zeego multi axis floor mounted angiography unit is located within theatres to provide imaging for complex endovascular cases.

Main duties of the job
The duties and responsibilities of the post holder require service delivery in a wide range of clinical environments as well as to a diversity of patient presentations and will involve lone working in particular areas or specialities and at particular times.

The service is delivered on a 24/7 basis. The post is a rotational radiographer post. Rotating through CT scanning, Interventional Radiology and Cardiology unit (IRCU) as well as areas such as the Accident & Emergency department, operating theatres, in-patient areas, neonatal unit, intensive care units and outpatients. The opportunity to rotate through MRI may also become available.Patient presentation will include the unconscious, uncooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, disorientated, and those with physical and mental disabilities. A wide variety of patients will be encountered and will include those exhibiting anti-social or threatening behaviour.

Other influencing factors include the skills needed to provide patients orrelatives with empathy, and emotional support for the bereaved, terminally ill, injured, traumatised, those involved in suspected Non Accidental Injury particularly the very young and the very old, or those altered by substance use/abuse

  • Experience dealing with a diverse range of patient presentations
