Medical Secretary to join our team and provide a comprehensive secretarial service to Consultants and their clinical teams within a designated specialty.
As a Medical Secretary, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of clinical services. You will be responsible for producing accurate and timely correspondence, maintaining patient records, and acting as the first point of contact for enquiries. This is a varied and rewarding position where your attention to detail and ability to prioritise will make a real difference to patient experience and service delivery.
Main duties of the jobProvide a full audio/copy typing service to a consultant(s) and their team(s) of both clinical and non-clinical nature, regularly using complex medical terminology within high volumes of workload.
Draft letters on behalf of the consultant on routine and other matters, to include the drafting of letters to patients following receipt of test results within defined parameters.
Devise, type and distribute working rotas for medical teams where required.
Assist in achieving National and Local performance targets by ensuring clinical letters are produced in a prescribed timescales e.g. within 24 hours for newly diagnosed oncology patients.
Arrangement of out-patient clinic appointments and processing standard correspondence to General Practitioners when patients fail to attend for appointments as well as for urgent appointments as necessary.
Arrangement of transport for patients, as appropriate for non clinical attendance as requested by the Trust.
Arrange domiciliary visits for medical staff, where required, ensuring the completion of documentation for these visits to facilitate appropriate payment.

Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Substantial experience within the NHS.
- Knowledge of waiting list / patient management systems.
- Knowledge of PAS systems and other relevant databases.
QualificationsEssential- GCSE English and Maths Grade C and above
- Excellent IT skills to include databases.
- AMPSAR qualification
Desirable- Experience in supporting patient follow up appointments
- RSA Typing Level 2/ Word processing or equivalent.
- Shorthand qualification, 60 wpm or above
- Audio Typing qualification.
