An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Paediatric Nurse to join our highly respected Pain Management Team at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

This is a rewarding role for a dedicated professional who is passionate about improving the lives of children and young people through the delivery of high-quality pain management services. As a key member of our specialist team, you will contribute to the provision of a seamless, effective, and evidence-based paediatric pain service across the Trust, promoting excellence in patient care and supporting multidisciplinary collaboration.

Working autonomously and alongside experienced colleagues, you will be involved in both acute and chronic pain management services, providing specialist advice, direct patient care, education, and support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals. You will act as a valuable resource for pain management issues across the organisation while helping to develop and enhance clinical practice.

Main duties of the job
Main duties of the post;

• Take responsibility for a defined caseload of children and families, incorporating a care co-ordination remit as agreed.
• Provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice and support to a team/department and ensure the provision of high-quality care to children and families.
• Provide information, clinical advice and support to children and families within a defined caseload and act as a resource to other professionals involved in that child's care.
• Be a highly competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the speciality ensuring the provision of high-quality evidence-based nursing care for children and families.
• Support the effective management of patient activity throughout the care pathway with a focus on continuous quality improvement.
• Ensure staff caring for children in the caseload have up to date clinical skills, knowledge and competence.
• Foster environments conducive to learning, inquiry and research to support the identification of training and development needs of staff.
• Participate in improvement, audit and research studies relating to nursing and multidisciplinary care within this specialist area.

Qualifications and Training
Essential

• RNC/RN8 degree or diploma level
• Current NMC registration
• Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
• 998 or mentorship / supervisor training

Desirable

• Clinical skills and pathophysiology module (or willingness to undertake depending on role within speciality)
• Good Clinical Practice GCP certificate

Experience
Essential

• Experience of providing clinical advice in relation to the specialist area.
• Experience of determining appropriate solution to problems pulling on different information available.
• Experience of planning provision of care for patients.
• Mentoring experience with nursing students and training/development teaching of junior colleagues

Knowledge and Skills
Essential

• Knowledge of clinical governance activities, including audit, benchmarking and quality improvement.
• Ability to dynamically risk assess clinical situations and respond appropriately.
• Ability to monitor and respond to changes in patient conditions effectively.
• Effective communication skills to provide guidance and education to patients.
• Skills in collecting and analysing data and using evidence based practice to improve patient outcomes.
