We are looking for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join our committed team of 30 anaesthetists. The successful candidate will support service expansion, provide consultant cover and flexibility, and assist colleagues during periods of leave.

Sheffield Children's Hospital boasts a state-of-the-art theatre complex with 9 dedicated theatres, a procedure room, and two MRI scanners.

Our service portfolio includes regional and supra-regional surgical specialties such as general surgery, urology, neonatal care, orthopaedics (spinal and limb reconstruction), plastics, burns, ENT, maxillofacial, dental, neurosurgery (with intraoperative MRI), and ophthalmology.

We have independently staffed Intensive Care and High Dependency Units, providing excellent multidisciplinary care.

Interviews are expected to be held on Monday 26th October 2026.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:

• Provide anaesthetic services to accommodate service expansion, consultant cover and flexibility, and to cover consultants who are on leave.
• There may be opportunity for those with appropriate qualifications to take on additional PICU responsibilities.

• MBBS or equivalent
• Relevant specialist qualification or equivalent

Knowledge/Previous Experience

• 12 months advanced Paediatric Anaesthesia training

Desirable

• Training, experience and or interest in Chronic Pain Medicine

Previous Training Management/Audit

• Basic experience in management eg trainee rotas
• Clear involvement in audit

• Understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants
