Job summary
The Directorate of Plastic and Breast Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a Whole-time Locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon for a fixed term period of 12 months.

Please note that the interview will take place on Tuesday 13th October via MS Teams.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive plastic surgery service. The post holder will have specific responsibility for the delivery of general plastic surgery, reflecting the current and anticipated demand within the service. Applicants should therefore be able to demonstrate appropriate experience, skills and interest in managing a broad range of plastic surgery patients.

The postholder will undertake outpatient clinics, MOPs lists and theatre sessions, providing care for general plastic surgery patients. This will include the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with a broad range of general plastic surgical conditions, including skin cancer, with the expectation that the postholder will contribute flexibly to the areas of greatest service demand.

Qualifications
Essential

• Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
• Postgraduate professional qualifications FRCS (Plast)

Desirable

• MD or PhD or equivalent
• Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview

Clinical experience
Essential

• Broad experience in general plastic surgery including skin cancer and general plastic surgery emergencies
• Needs to have current Safeguarding Child/Adult competencies.
• Good knowledge of modern surgical techniques including the use of skin substitutes and reconstruction techniques

Desirable

• Fellowship level experience plastic surgery

Research
Essential

• Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

• Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and training
Essential

• Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

CPD
Essential

• Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

• Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration
Essential

• Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management
• Able to work well in a team across all staff groups

Clinical governance and audit
Essential

• Experience in performing clinical audit

Desirable

• Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project

Personal attributes
Essential

• Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
• Good written and oral communication skills
