Description

Job Summary
  • Communicate with colleagues at all levels in the department, including clerical, nursing, ancillary and clinical staff by both verbal and written means.
  • Communicate with colleagues at all levels on other wards and departments by both verbal and written means information which may be sensitive and complex e.g. information on x-ray requests.
  • Communicate with patients, relatives and carers often under difficult situations e.g. children, non English speaking, hard of hearing, patients under the influence of drugs or alcohol etc.
  • With external health professionals such as GPs, ambulance staff.
  • Attending departmental staff meetings and team meetings regularly and contributing to discussions on services and policies where appropriate.
  • Acting within prescribed policies and protocols of the Trust.

Main duties of the job
  • Use professional knowledge to give advice on images and appropriate examinations to clinicians when requested. This includes the "red dot" images positive finding system i.e. Identifying an abnormality or fracture on the film to assist the referring doctor.
  • To work independently, with minimal supervision in a wide range of radiographic situations, e.g. accident and emergency, plain film radiography, fluoroscopic procedures, mobile and theatre work and angiography.
  • Have responsibility for patient care and imaging for lengthy periods of time.
  • Respond correctly to situations where the patients' life is at risk, for example in the resuscitation room, by providing swift and accurate images in a calm and professional manner.
  • Use specialist knowledge e.g. when examining trauma and other critically ill patients, taking into consideration their condition and deciding on the best views to take.

Job responsibilities
Please see attached full job description. Maintains good communication, liaison and working arrangements with other Trust teams, Trusts and external agencies. To use communication tools (verbal and non verbal) to gain valid informed consent with patients where there will often be barriers to effective communication e.g. loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia, pain, fear. To have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment e.g. those with cognitive or speech difficulties.
