Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Clinical / Counselling Psychologist (HCPC registered) or CBT therapist (BABCP accredited) who is enthusiastic and passionate about working with a range of clients (many of whom are difficult to engage) to work in our friendly service.
Please note candidates need to be qualified clinical/counselling psychologists and registered with the Health & Care Professions Council or they ned to be qualified Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapists and accredited with the British Association of Behaviour and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP).
Ideally the post holder will have experience of working within a specialist eating disorders service. However, this is not a prerequisite and we will offer in-house training, regular supervision and a thorough induction to all new staff in order to develop knowledge and skills of working with eating disorders. The post is substantive at full-time (1.0wte). Please note that the post requires a minimum of 3 days working in-person at our main hospital base Springfield (SW17 0YE).
Main duties of the jobThe primary therapy modalities are CBT and MANTRA but there is a lot of scope to incorporate other therapy models such as CFT, DBT & CRT amongst others. The post holder would offer psychological assessment, formulation and therapy to individuals and groups and contribute to teaching, supervision, service development projects, research and audit.
The post holder will receive clinical and professional supervision from an experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/CBT therapist and will have the opportunity to provide supervision to others eg Band 7 clinicians, Assistant Psychologists and psychology / CBT trainees on placement.
The adult eating disorders service is part of a provider collaborative network, the South London Partnership, with the South London & Maudsley EDS. This offers great opportunity for more integrated working across the partnership and developing new initiatives together with colleagues in the SLaM Eating Disorders Service.

Job responsibilitiesJob SummaryTo provide a qualified clinical/counselling psychology / CBT therapy service to clients of the day unit and outpatient Adult Eating Disorders teams; providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.
Working EnvironmentThis is an opportunity to join a supportive and specialist multi-disciplinary team. Day to day, the successful applicant would be providing specialist individual and group psychological interventions for adults who have sought a referral for their eating disorder related difficulties. They would also provide an active role in supporting the wider MDT staff in terms of formulation and care planning.
All members of the team typically work the core hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, although there is scope for discussion of some flexible working hours. The Day Unit work is in person at Springfield Hospital. In the outpatient team, we work in a hybrid manner with a mix of both online and face-to-face appointments. This means that some days working from home will be possible.
The specialist eating disorders service is part of South West London and St. Georges Mental Health NHS Trust which comprises four Service Lines. The Eating Disorders Services falls within the CAMHS and All Age Eating Disorders Service Line and comprises a national specialist in-patient and a local out-patient service and day unit for adults with an eating disorder.

Person SpecificationTraining & Qualifications- Successful completion of post graduate doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS prior to July 2009, or approved by the HCPC from July 2009 OR completion of BABCP approved cognitive behaviour therapy training
- Registered with the Health Care Professions Council OR with the British Association of Behaviour & Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) as a Behaviouoral & Cognitive Psychotherapist in CBT.
- vidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC /BABCP
Desirable- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
- Advanced training in Behavioural Cognitive Psychotherapy.
- Accredited supervisor with the BABCP
ExperienceEssential- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
- Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision while working as a specialist clinical/counselling psychologist or as a specialist cognitive behaviour therapist (significant demonstrable experience) or an alternative agreed by the Head of Psychology and Psychotherapies
Desirable- Experience of working with clients with eating disorders, delivering psychological assessment and treatment, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, on an individual and group basis
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts
