Job summaryWe are seeking an enthusiastic & motivated Research Doctor to join our expanding research team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality clinical research studies within mental health services, supporting the development of evidence-based care & improving outcomes for service users.
The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary clinical & research teams to support the delivery of commercial & non-commercial studies across a range of mental health specialties. The role will involve participant assessment, recruitment, study procedures, safety monitoring, & collaboration with sponsors, investigators, and external partners.
The successful candidate will have an interest in clinical research, excellent communication skills, & a commitment to improving patient care through research innovation.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be required to workas a Sub-Investigator, progressing to Principal Investigator, on commercial & non-commercial clinical trials including Phase II & Phase III. They will be responsible for the safety & wellbeing of participants during clinical trials & ensuring research is conducted in accordance with relevant guidelines including International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practice.They will be required to represent the Trust at various internal/external stakeholder meetings including Investigator meetings (sometimes international), board reviews & RDN meetings.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
- Full medical registration with a license to practice.
- Obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures. If any doctor is not section 12 approved, a discussion will occur between the appointed doctor and the Associate Medical Director for Research & Development.
Desirable- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
- Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills.
EligibilityEssential- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & ExperienceEssential- Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Make decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others
- Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams.
- Knowledge of psychiatric provision
Desirable- Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course.
- Published audit or research projects
Academic Skills & Lifelong LearningEssential- Ability to take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care.
- Ability to appraise own performance as a Speciality Doctor and reflect on development needs
