Job summaryUniversity Hospitals Sussex are delighted to offer the position of a full (or part) time Specialty Doctor in Haematology for a period of 12 months (from 2 September 2026 to 2 September 2027) to cover maternity leave to work alongside our team of 6 Haematologists, 3 Specialty Registrar's and 5 Haematology Specialist nurses in the Western half of the trust. This position is based primarily in Worthing Hospital on the beautiful South Coast. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward looking colleague to work within our close knit team.
The Haematology department provides an extensive haemato-oncology practice to level 2b care, as well as general haematology incl obstetrics and paediatrics, transfusion medicine and is a UKHCDO accredited Haemophilia Centre
This post offers an excellent opportunity to further develop an interest in Haematology and the successful candidate will be expected to have some experience in managing haematology patients in both a ward and outpatient setting.
Main duties of the job- To support the Haematology team in providing full clinical care to those with blood disorders and inpatient care to those with haematological malignancy up to and including BSCH level 2B care.
- To support colleagues with specialist advice on all aspects of Haematology both within the trust and in primary care.
- To provide clinical support to the Haematology Laboratory
- To actively engage in departmental meetings, clinical governance and teaching to our resident doctors
- To become actively involved in our Haematology trials portfolio

Person SpecificationExperience & QualificationsEssential- oBasic medical degree or appropriate specialist qualification
- oFull GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- oFour years post-graduation, with two years in the relevant specialty
Desirable- oPostgraduate qualification
- oMRCP
- oFCRPath part 1 or equivalent
Clinical Skills & ExperienceEssential- oExperience breaking bad news and/or delivering complex cancer diagnosis
- oUnderstanding of clinical risk management
Desirable- oWorking within a haematology department or has experience looking after haematology patients
- oHas experience looking after patients receiving chemotherapy and/ or has experience prescribing chemotherapy
- oExperience reporting blood films
- oExperience performing bone marrow procedures
