The Acute Surgical Unit (ASU) and Surgical SDEC are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to join the team as a Nurse Team Leader. This role is ideal for someone with post registration experience in a surgical or acute setting who is confident in clinical decision making, adaptable, and committed to delivering high quality patient care in a fast paced environment. You will work within a proactive multidisciplinary team caring for a diverse range of acute surgical patients, including direct admissions from the UECC and GP referrals.
The role requires excellent communication skills, strong organisational ability, and the capacity to prioritise effectively while ensuring safe, compassionate care from admission through to timely discharge. As a Nurse Team Leader, you will provide visible leadership, support staff development, and contribute to service improvement and quality initiatives as the unit continues to evolve.

Main duties of the jobAs a Nurse Team Leader on the Acute Surgical Unit/ Surgical SDEC, you will provide strong, visible leadership and take responsibility for supporting the safe and effective delivery of care for Patients on the emergency general surgical/ urology pathways. You will work clinically and take charge of the unit, ensuring coordinated Patient flow and maintaining oversight of activity within a busy and evolving environment.
You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure individualised care plans are developed and reviewed, supporting safe and timely discharge. You will contribute to clinical governance through audit activity, incident reporting and investigation, and by sharing learning to support continuous improvement. You will also lead and support quality improvement projects, helping to embed best practice and strengthen service performance.
Alongside the Ward Manager, you will undertake key management responsibilities, including supporting service development and contributing to change management initiatives. You will create a positive learning environment, providing education, coaching and mentorship to staff, students and new starters. You will manage concerns and complaints professionally and support roster management to ensure safe staffing levels and an appropriate skill mix across the unit.
