The successful candidate will play a central role within our motivated and committed Recovery team in Chelsea. As a Band 5 Recovery Practitioner, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, individualised post-anaesthetic care to patients undergoing a wide range of complex surgical procedures. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care within the recovery environment, using sound clinical judgement to recognise changes in a patient's condition, initiate appropriate interventions and escalate concerns promptly. You will work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, theatre practitioners to ensure safe and effective patient care and transfer from the recovery area.
Main duties of the job- To be responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of needs of patients. To carry out all relevant forms of care for patients of all specialities. To maintain supervision of unregistered staff, during each spell of duty. To be able to teach other nursing /ODP staff including nurse/ ODP learners.
- To be responsible for the safe use of complex theatre equipment (glidoscope, bronchoscopes etc) with responsibility for ordering stock and non-stock supplies and arranging timely servicing of this equipment, both routine and urgent. To demonstrate sound knowledge base of safe decontamination processes and practices, particularly relating to the safe decontamination of flexible scopes & sterilisation of instruments.
- Support the senior staff and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of clinical practice and staff development as part of the theatre team.
- Provide specialist clinical advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised, evidence-based care to patients/ clients and relatives/ carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
- To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all staff by acting as a mentor and role model with the support of their senior colleagues.

Clinical/Professional- To carry out duties according to statutory competencies, appropriate expanded role and maintained codes of professional conduct (NMC/HPC).
- To manage the total nursing care of patients competently and be accountable for professional actions.
- To ensure that all patients are treated as individuals, within the agreed codes of nursing practice.
- To be responsible for the total care of patients who require any clinical intervention in recovery.
Educational- To be able to teach and act as a mentor to other nursing/ODP staff, including nurse/ODP learners.

Managerial- To assist in taking charge of recovery in the absence of the team leader.

- To be able to direct and support appropriate staff (following own management experience).
- To undertake management experience within the support of team leader of the unit.
Research Component- To understand and follow current developments in clinical practice and related sciences which will increase professional knowledge and skills.
- To identify potential areas for research within this speciality, which will benefit patient care.
- To encourage other staff to recognise the need for clinical research/audit and participate in any ongoing research/audit that has formal approval by this Trust.
Person SpecificationAttainmentsEssential- Registered Nurse/ Registered ODP
- C & G 752/NVQ level 3 ODP/Dip HE ODP
- Able to demonstrate sound knowledge Recovery, Anaesthetics and surgical procedures
- Knowledge of research and audit
Desirable- Accredited Anaesthetic course or Recovery course
- Experience in area of speciality
