An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Physiotherapist to join our friendly and supportive inpatient physiotherapy team at Torbay Hospital.
This unique developmental Band 5-6 role is designed for physiotherapists who are passionate about respiratory care and wish to progress into a highly specialist respiratory physiotherapy position. You will begin as a Band 5 Physiotherapist and, following completion of a structured competency framework and approximately 12 months of supported development, progress to a Band 6 Highly Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist role.
Working alongside experienced Band 6 and Band 7 clinicians, you will gain valuable experience across a wide range of acute and specialist respiratory services while developing advanced clinical, leadership and management skills.
If you already have Band 5 experience and ready for a band 6 role we also have Band 6 Respiratory posts with the same opportunities.
Main duties of the jobYou will provide high-quality physiotherapy assessment and treatment across a variety of clinical areas including:
- Acute respiratory wards
- Surgical services
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Emergency Care
- Paediatrics
- Outpatient respiratory clinics
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation services
- Community and home-based respiratory care
As part of a large multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in supporting patient recovery, promoting independence and facilitating safe discharge planning.
The successful candidate will participate in:
- A 7-day service (including weekend working approximately once a month)
- The respiratory on-call rota following competency achievement
- Clinical education and supervision activities
- Quality improvement, audit and service development projects
- Access to our Clinical Development lead and have supported development opportunities

Job responsibilitiesEssential Requirements- Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
- Current HCPC Registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
- Minimum 6 months' experience working as a Band 5 Physiotherapist within the NHS
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication, organisational and clinical reasoning skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage a varied caseload
- Commitment to providing excellent patient-centred care
Desirable- Experience in respiratory physiotherapy
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience
- Outpatient respiratory experience
- Knowledge of advanced respiratory assessment and treatment techniques
- Experience within pulmonary rehabilitation services
