Job Title: HPB CNS (diagnostic & surveillance)

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and play a key role in developing innovative nurse-led services. You'll need to be a highly motivated and experienced individual with a strong knowledge of HPB cancers, their treatment pathways and the ongoing needs of patients following treatment.

You will need to have experience of running nurse-led clinics within agreed protocols and clinical guidelines. An understanding of Patient Initiated Follow-Up (PIFU) pathways would be beneficial.

Working closely with the HPB Consultant of the Week, you will be responsible for coordinating, investigating and tracking Urgent Suspected Cancer referrals, ensuring patients receive timely assessment and management. In addition, you will lead the development and delivery of nurse-led clinics for patients with benign HPB conditions and help to establish surveillance and PIFU pathways for patients who have completed treatment for HPB cancers.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and develop new services, improve patient experience and support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care across the HPB pathway. You will work collaboratively with consultants, CNSs, multidisciplinary teams, cancer services and primary care colleagues to ensure seamless care and optimal outcomes for our patients.

Job responsibilities
Be responsible for coordinating, investigating and tracking HPB Urgent Suspected Cancer referrals, ensuring timely assessment, investigation and high-quality patient-centred care.

Develop and run nurse-led clinics for both benign HPB conditions and post-treatment cancer surveillance (PIFU), working closely with the CNS and consultants to ensure seamless transitions between services.

Experience/Skills needed

• Specialist clinical knowledge and experience in the management of HPB cancers and treatment pathways.
• Experience of independently managing a patient caseload and acting as a key worker.
• Evidence of leadership, service development, change management, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Experience of setting up and running nurse-led clinics

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential

• Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
• Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits), Master's Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
• Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
• Provide evidence of leading learning in practice
• Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
• Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
• Evidence of change Management, leadership and innovation
• Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality
• Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
• Provide evidence of supporting / managing and supervision of a range of learnings in practice

Desirable

• Counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training
• Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
• Multidisciplinary team working
• Experience of nurse-led care / clinics in own practice
• Team leadership role
• Awareness of own leadership skills/style
• Registered as an independent prescriber
• Leadership Qualification / training
