Job summaryThe University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) are looking to recruit a Consultant Geriatrician to join our existing Department for Medicine of the Elderly (DME) team as we look to build on our recent expansion and successes - part time applications will be considered to enable us to get up to our required establishment.
The organisation was formed on 1st July 2018 to bring together our five Hospitals in Derby, Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth to provide the highest quality care to patients across southern Derbyshire and south east Staffordshire.
DME at UHDB has developed and expanded considerably over the past 5 years. At the Royal Derby Hospital site there are 16 Consultants and 4 Acute Inpatient Geriatric Wards and at Queen's Hospital, Burton we have 3 Consultants and 2 Acute Inpatient Geriatric Wards.
Main duties of the jobThe Derby based Parkinson's Team was awarded a National Parkinson Foundation Centre of Excellence status by the NPF in 2011 and following four yearly reviews is accredited until 2026 and is one of only two such centres in the UK. Our nationally recognized multidisciplinary movement disorder clinic is led by Dr Skelly and we are seeking to develop the service at Burton and we have a dedicated Senior Clinical Fellow for Parkinson's Disease.
The Department's Academic Representative representative is Dr Jemima Collins. Dr Collins' appointment aims to enhance the department's participation in the area of research.
The Burton based team provide specialist clinics in falls, fracture prevention, syncope and orthogeriatrics.

Job responsibilitiesThe Department is active in teaching both medical students and at postgraduate level. There is also a developing research program, alongside regular audits and a developing set of KPIs. Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- MBBS/MBCH
- GMC Specialist Register for Medicine for the Elderly Specialty OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR If applying for Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice simultaneously with a Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted and is under consideration by the GMC

Clinical ExperienceEssential- 5 year supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme, together with a high standard of clinical skill and expertise in Medicine for the Elderly
- Comprehensive technical competence in Medicine for the Elderly
- Evidence of ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities
- Experienced in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
- Evidence of independent clinical practice
- Evidence of up to date and relevant clinical knowledge in the specialty and evidence of an understanding of its application
Desirable- 1 year NHS experience
- Interest in an area of the specialty complimentary to existing consultants
Teaching ExperienceEssential- Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
Desirable- Attended a recognised teaching training course
Research ExperienceEssential- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
