Job summary
Do you have an interest in working in specialist dietetics?

This role offers the opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our supportive inclusive dietetic department. The post will be based at Royal Derby Hospital. You will be an integral part of our flexible and friendly team supported by our experienced specialist dietitians and dietetic assistant practitioners.

You will complete 9 month rotations across three specialist areas , gaining experience in acute nutrition support, upper and lower GI surgery, and gastroenterology/hepatology. Your first rotation will be in one of the following specialist areas:
  • Acute Nutritional support - predominantly enteral feeding including stroke, surgical step down and critical care.
  • Upper and lower GI surgical - cancer and non-cancer surgery across inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.
  • Gastroenterology and Hepatology- luminal and hepatology patients across inpatient services and outpatient care.

You should have experience of acute adult dietetics, ideally with relevant experience in one or more of the rotation specialities.

We are recruiting to two roles: one permanent position and one six-month fixed-term position, providing cover for an internal secondment.

Main duties of the job
You'll manage your own caseload while working alongside experienced specialist dietitians. Each rotation offers the opportunity the develop specialist clinical skills, contribute to service improvement, and receive regular clinical supervision and professional development.

You will become an integral member of multidisciplinary teams, working alongside consultants, specialist nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals to deliver evidence-based nutritional care.

We have an established training programme for student dietitians and apprenticeships with Coventry, Nottingham and Sheffield universities. The role will include delivering regular student supervision and training.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Current HCPC registration as a Dietitian
  • Post-registration experience in acute adult dietetics across a minimum of two distinct clinical specialities/service areas

Desirable
  • Active membership of a relevant specialist professional group or network

Skills
Essential
  • Experience of independently managing a varied acute dietetic caseload, including prioritisation and clinical decision making
  • Demonstratable experience of managing patients requiring complex nutrition support, including enteral nutrition
  • Evidence of effective MDT working within acute hospital services
  • Evidence of relevant CPD demonstrating development of knowledge and skills across a range of acute dietetic specialities

Desirable
  • Experience of contributing to service development, quality improvement or clinical audit

Teaching Experience
Essential
  • Experience of actively supporting, supervising and contributing to the assessment of dietetic students during practice-based placements

Desirable
  • Experience of planning and delivering education or training to dietetic colleagues and/or members of the multidisciplinary team
