Applications are invited for a Specialty Registrar Forensic Histopathology (ST3+) post in Cellular Pathology.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and forward thinking individual with an interest in training in Forensic Pathology to join the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit. The trainee will work under the supervision of our experienced forensic pathologist team. There are opportunities to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, audit, research and development.

Main duties of the job
This post is part of the Leicester Forensic Histopathology Training Programme. The programme follows the curriculum for specialty training in Forensic Histopathology set by the Royal College of Pathologists and is directed by the Histopathology Specialty School. The programme lasts 2.5 to 3.5 years for those entering the Specialty Registrar grade for the first time at ST3 level.

Job responsibilities
The trainee will be expected to complete a minimal number of autopsies to meet Royal College of Pathologists training requirements. They will accompany the consultant members of the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit on suspicious death cases dependent upon their working time and rotas. These take place within the area of the East Midlands. They will also accompany the forensic pathology consultants to court to gain experience of the medico-legal system. By the end of their training, trainees will be expected to give evidence in Coroners Court in cases they have undertaken.

Training and qualifications
Essential

• MB ChB or equivalent
• Full or limited GMC registration
• FRCPath Part 1 Histopathology

Desirable

• BSc or equivalent.
• Higher research degree (MSc, PhD, MD)

• Two years post-registration experience in a histopathology post recognised by RCPath with evidence of successful progression and completion of ICPT training.

• A sound level of knowledge of basic science and the ability to interpret its relevance to clinical practice.
• Ability to interpret a wide range of clinical data from all specialties with reference to pathological interpretation.
• Knowledge and experience of basic techniques in histopathology and cytopathology, including specimen dissection, microscopy, performing an autopsy and writing clinical pathology reports.
