Job summary
The Clinical Support Worker (CSW) Band 3 plays a vital role in supporting registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate patient care. The post holder provides direct patient care, promotes patient wellbeing, and contributes to the smooth day-to-day running of the clinical area.

Main duties of the job
Deliver high-quality personal care and support to patients in accordance with individual care plans. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and comfort. Undertake delegated clinical duties appropriate to training and competency, such as recording observations, monitoring patients, and collecting specimens. Support the maintenance of patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality at all times. Accurately record care delivered and escalate any concerns regarding patient condition to registered staff. Contribute to infection prevention and control measures and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment. Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes. Work collaboratively with nursing, medical, and allied health professional colleagues to support positive patient outcomes.

About us
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

Job responsibilities
The Clinical Support Worker (Band 3) is a key member of the Emergency Department multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute, urgent, and emergency healthcare needs. Working under the direction and supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals, the post holder will support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care within a fast-paced clinical environment.

• Undertake delegated clinical tasks appropriate to competence and training, including recording physiological observations, blood glucose monitoring, ECG recording, specimen collection, and other agreed duties.
• Recognise and report any changes in a patient's condition promptly to registered staff.
• Support the assessment, treatment, transfer, admission, and discharge of patients within the Emergency Department.
• Assist in maintaining patient flow by preparing clinical areas, supporting patient movement, and ensuring the availability of equipment and resources.
• Accurately document care provided and maintain patient records in accordance with Trust policies and professional standards.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control and contribute to a clean, safe, and well-organised clinical environment.
• Assist in the safe handling and movement of patients in accordance with moving and handling procedures.
• Replenish stock, maintain equipment, and report faults or shortages as required.
• Work collaboratively with nursing, medical, allied health professional, and support services colleagues to deliver safe and effective patient care.
• Contribute to safeguarding, patient safety, quality improvement, and risk management activities within the department.
• Participate in mandatory training, competency assessments, supervision, and personal development activities.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across all areas of the Emergency Department, supporting the delivery of high-quality care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and contributing to the achievement of departmental performance, quality, and patient experience standards.
