Job summary
The clinical audit midwife will be an experienced midwife who will work within the maternity governance team and will responsible for the management and completion of maternity audits including CNST, Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle v, Maternity Care Bundle 3 & Ockenden and Amos requirements.

The main component of the role will be to utilise their expert midwifery clinical knowledge to provide advice and promote and complete clinical audit, quality improvement and assurance projects relevant to Maternity Services.

The postholder will consult and provide advise to clinical staff on the design and development of proposed audit projects. This may include advice on selecting topics to audit, carrying out literature searches, advising on the appropriate methodology to promote the completion of the clinical audit cycle.

The post holder will also present and deliver the audit data at relevant meetings within the directorate.

Main duties of the job
Facilitate the development and implementation of the Maternity Clinical Audit Programme through planning, design, project management, data input, data analysis, report preparation and the dissemination of audit results.

Support the development of the Midwifery Clinical Audit Plans in conjunction with Clinical Audit Leads taking account of local, national and mandatory requirements e.g. MIS/Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle/Maternity Care bundle/Ockenden/Amos, National Maternity and Perinatal Audit (NMPA), CQC to reflect the Trust's governance, contractual and national clinical standards obligations.

Benchmark data and findings against local and national expectations.

Be responsive and proactive in identifying themes requiring prompt audit and development of Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Timely (SMART) action plans.

To provide the agreed support to audit projects, and delegate selected tasks to other Department staff where appropriate. Where tasks are delegated, to be responsible for the quality assurance of those tasks.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Midwifery Degree or educational equivalent
  • Full and Active NMC Midwifery PIN

Desirable
  • Teaching or mentoring qualification

Experience
Essential
  • Minimum 2 years band 6 experience
  • Good working knowledge of MS office including Word and Excel
  • Understanding of national drivers in maternity services

Desirable
  • Experience of undertaking audits
