Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a 12 month Locum Consultant Gynae Oncologist to join a team of 32 Consultants that provide care within the Directorate of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The post-holder will be required to provide the full range of surgical Gynaecological Oncology cover including, diagnostics and major surgical procedures including robotic surgery for patients on a cancer pathway working in collaboration with existing consultants and within the multi-disciplinary team. This post is an interim post with the potential of becoming a substantive post.

This post is based at University Hospital of North Midlands. Clinical Duties will be across both the Royal Stoke and County Hospital Sites. The post holder will have a total of 9.949PAs per week. The post holder will participate in a 1:12 gynae on call weekday and weekend rota.

The post holder will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and will work within a team-based structure to support care across both hospital sites. He / She will be a member of the relevant divisional, trust and regional committees. He / She will also be expected to participate in the immediate management functions and strategic planning of the Division and Trusts on both sites.

About us
University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • CCT or equivalent
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via CCT within 6 months of date of the AAC
  • Completed RCOG Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent
  • Recent Experience in working in an UK based hospitals in a Gynaecology oncology sub-specialty post.

Desirable
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD, PhD, FRCS)
  • BSCCP accreditation

Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working
Essential
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and within a team.
  • Attendance at MDT meetings
  • Evidence of team leadership

Academic Achievements, Research, Publications
Essential
  • Experience in research including recruitment to clinical trials
  • Willing to participate in audit programmes

Desirable
  • Evidence of continuing research

Clinical Experience & Training
Essential
  • Proficiency in all aspects of laparoscopic surgery relevant to gynaecological oncology. Should be able to perform laparoscopic Wertheim's operation
  • Experience in radical and supra-radical surgery for ovarian cancer, including upper abdominal peritoneal stripping
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
  • Proficiency in performing robotic procedures, including simple and radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.
  • Robotic proctor/trainer with certification.
  • Experience in sentinel node sampling in vulval and endometrial cancer
