Job summary
As one of our many rotational specialist clinical pharmacist, band 7 you will be part of a large, friendly and supportive team dedicated to excellent patient care and staff development. Our Pharmacy team includes numerous experienced, advanced specialists who support and nurture the junior pharmacists to learn and develop the clinical knowledge, skills, and experience to equip you for a wide range of career options. The band 7 rotational specialist pharmacist role is complimented by an extensive pharmacist rotation and our Band 7 development pathway. We are supportive of flexible working (part time hours can be considered) and although previous postgraduate learning is desirable all our band 7 rotational specialist pharmacists are encouraged and supported to study for a diploma and prescribing qualification if not already obtained.

Main duties of the job
Our Band 7 programme includes a band 7 development pathway which aligns with the national Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum. The rotations include Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Haematology/Oncology, Paediatrics, Antimicrobial stewardship, Neurology, Cardiothoracics, medicines information, formulary and medicines safety. All rotations are 6 months in length and include clinical and dispensary commitments plus speciality project and development work. Our pharmacy department has excellent links with the Keele University Pharmacy and Medical Schools and there are opportunities to gain experience in delivering formal and informal teaching to pharmacy and medical students and to undertake research. We support every one of our pharmacists with opportunities to explore and develop their own individual interests as part of building their own, unique, career portfolio. Training time is allocated for a wide range of courses and opportunities. As a team we encourage everyone to have a voice and through working together we ensure that we can adapt to support the needs of patients and our staff.

You will enjoy 27 days paid holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays rising to 33 days paid holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays following 10 years service.

There is an on-call requirement (remunerated per session) which requires you to be within 30 minutes of the hospital. We also operate a backup on-call service to provide you with support should you need it, in addition to being able to contact our specialist pharmacists should the need arise.

There is a requirement for weekend and Bank Holiday working.

Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Pharmacy (MPharm)
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Has successfully completed a minimum of one year of a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and studying/prepared to study for Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma / MSc or equivalent qualification or evidence of equivalent experience or training

Desirable
  • Completed a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent advanced practice supported by training
  • Completed or working towards an independent prescribing qualification.
  • Member of the RPSGB
  • Member of the UKCPA

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
  • Broad post registration experience in hospital pharmacy.
  • Recent broad clinical pharmacy experience and knowledge
  • Commitment and evidence of professional updating and formal continuous professional development
  • Experience of training and supervising other staff e.g. trainee pharmacists, work experience students
  • Ability to supervise the work of other staff and provide constructive feedback on performance
  • Interest in expanding knowledge and self development
  • Able to present written information clearly, concisely and accurately
  • Broad understanding of current hospital pharmacy practice
  • Computer literate including ability to use Microsoft Word, email and internet

Desirable
  • Extensive hospital pharmacy operational experience e.g. technical services, MI, dispensary and clinical pharmacy
  • Knowledge of directorate pharmacy services
  • Evidence of involvement in pharmacy practice research and/or audit

Personal Qualities
  • Honest and trustworthy and able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Self motivated with enthusiasm to work as a specialist clinical pharmacist and to contribute to the forward planning of the service
  • Ability to work unsupervised and alone
  • Ability to work in a busy environment and to remain calm and assertive under pressure
  • Ability to work with other colleagues effectively as part of a team
