Job summary
The Clinical Quality Manager will support the delivery of national/local guidance and policies, adopting a highly visible and accessible approach for patients, leading by example in empowering and developing staff to apply evidence-based practice into current clinical practice in order to modernise and improve patient care. The post holder will work with the Divisional Quality Lead to deliver the quality governance agenda and provide leadership on quality and patient safety within the Surgery Division.

They will support the Divisional Quality Lead on the implementation of the ward/unit/department accreditation programmes, including the creation of templates and the data collection and lead on the portfolio reviews for the clinical areas.

Main duties of the job
To provide professional leadership through motivation, supervision and/or implementation of assurance processes to ensure high standards of care for patients and their families; promoting patient centred service delivery through visible and accessible expertise to which staff, patients and their families can turn for assistance.

The Clinical Quality Manager will work with the multidisciplinary teams to set and monitor high standards of clinical care, underpinned by sound evidence-based knowledge and 'Essence of Care' principles ensuring quality systems are in place to monitor practice, representing the Division at Trust groups such as 'Harm Free Care'.

Job responsibilities
Primary Duties & Areas of Responsibility
Clinical Leadership

• Establish effective relationships with PALS and the Complaints team encouraging staff in the proactive resolution of concerns. Support adherence to the target time for complaints resolution. Ensure that actions arising from patients concerns are feedback and progressed.
• Provide guidance, support and leadership to all staff across the Division with regard to Risk Management and Clinical Governance issues and management of the risk & incident reporting system across the Division.
• Take responsibility for co-coordinating the Divisional day to day risk & incident management process. Coordinate and facilitate Risk & Incident Meetings within the Division in line with the relevant Terms of Reference.
• Co-ordinate and provide leadership and support for investigations that occur across the Division, ensuring that subsequent action plans are implemented and evidence base is available to ensure lessons are learnt.
• Responsible for providing advice on risk & incidents, which will include the delivery of training. Teach and train staff in risk & Incident management techniques.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• Considerable demonstrable experience of leadership at a senior level.
• Demonstrable experience of operational management within a complex organisation

Desirable

• Demonstrable experience within a similar role.

Qualifications
Essential

• Registered Nurse/Midwife/AHP or equivalent
• Educated to Degree level in a healthcare related subject, or equivalent demonstrable experience, plus additional demonstrable experience and proven knowledge as above to masters level

Desirable

• Formally educated to Masters level in a healthcare related subject / or working towards

Aptitiude and Abilities
Essential

• Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
• Good IT skills
