Job summary

Please note that this post involves being able to work at least one evening session per week (12pm - 8pm) and you will have to have a minimum of 1-year post qualification experience in a Talking Therapies service as well as supervisory experience.

Main duties of the job
You will have the opportunity to:
  • Lead on specialist interests & service development within the Step 2 Team.
  • Line manage staff.
  • Provide supervision of staff.

We are very proud of the excellent professional psychological service we provide to our clients and the many excellent outcomes we achieve. You will help us provide an even better service in the future by delivering mental health screening assessments and psychological interventions (including more complex cases appropriate to Step 2 work) with the support of a qualified member of the team, and working independently according to a plan agreed with line manager within the framework of our policies and procedures.

You will take pride in:
  • Supporting the PWP Professional Lead/Senior Management Team to ensure the smooth operation of the Step 2 team.
  • Assisting in clinically related admin, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
  • Supporting the step 2 team via the provision of supervision and line management.
  • Supporting and inducting new staff to the Step 2 Team.
  • Working with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary. You should be committed to equal opportunities.
  • Screening new referrals and making decisions about the suitability of referrals. Offering a range of treatment options including GSH and groups.

Qualifications & Training
Essential
  • Talking Therapies Low Intensity worker/Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner qualification with at least one-year post qualification experience.
  • Registered as a PWP with the BPS/BABCP

Desirable
  • A second class honours degree or higher in Psychology
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
  • Talking Therapies LTC Training
  • Talking Therapies Supervisor training

Experience
Essential
  • Significant experience of working clinically with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities
  • Ability to demonstrate a range of post-qualification experiences (minimum of 1 year) in offering and delivering the range of evidence based Talking Therapies low Intensity interventions such as guided self-help and groups.
  • Experience of working with people who present with risk to themselves
  • Experience of managing sensitive safeguarding concerns
  • Experience supervising and supporting the development of staff within a therapy setting e.g. trainee PWPs

Desirable
  • Experience of co-working with staff in other agencies (e.g. health visitors or staff in drug and alcohol services
  • Experience of audit and research
  • Previous Line Management experience

Knowledge
Essential
  • Knowledge of different models of mental health/mental illness
  • Knowledge of relevant Policies, procedures and guidelines and the ability to learn and apply these.
  • Knowledge of working sensitively with diversity (including working with black & minority ethnic groups)
  • Knowledge of Evidence based practice/clinical governance
  • Models of assessment (including clinical risk assessment) record keeping and evidence based brief psychological intervention
  • An awareness of severe and enduring mental health presentations (including psychosis, bi-polar).
  • Ability to work effectively with interpreters.
  • Ability to effectively manage the demands of working with more complex cases at step 2.
  • Knowledge of outcome measures and their use in clinical and audit purposes
  • High level of communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
  • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
  • High standard of report writing
  • Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively

  • An ability to work well within a team and foster good working relationships with staff from all disciplines
  • An ability to develop positive therapeutic relationships with people with mental health difficulties
  • Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with a busy workload agreed and managed at regular intervals
  • Ability to be self-reflective, whilst working with service users, in own personal and professional development and in context of supervision

Other
Essential
  • Available to work at least one evening shift per week
  • Holds a private and confidential space at home, necessary for working from home
  • Able to travel and work on site at the main hub (The Isleworth Centre, 146 Twickenham Rd) as well as other site locations throughout the London Borough of Hounslow, at least two days per week.
  • (Please note that we are not able to offer 100% remote working)
