Join Kingston Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service, part of Your Healthcare, an innovative, not-for-profit social enterprise delivering high-quality NHS community services. Working within our friendly and supportive team, you'll help pre-school children with complex needs develop the skills, confidence and independence to thrive.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our team and be an integral part of the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities. You will work alongside experienced Speech and language Therapists supporting pre-school children with their communication and or eating, drinking and swallowing needs. You will carry out therapy programmes, support communication in pre-school settings/homes create resources, and empower families and education staff to help children achieve their goals.

This is a permanent post and is for 18.75 hours per week.

You will be based at Moor Lane centre, Chessington working across the Royal Borough of Kingston.

Qualifications
Essential

• Knowledge of speech and language development
• Experience of working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties
• Experience of working with under 5s with complex medical and learning needs

Desirable

• NVQ 3 level qualified in a relevant subject or equivalent.
• Exposure to swallowing difficulties

Experience
Essential

• Working with under 5s with learning and developmental needs
• Working with children within nurseries /schools or voluntary groups
• Planning and organising events, functions
• Administrative experience

Desirable

• Experience of working with SALT
• Working with children with speech, language and communication needs in a child development centre and / or education setting
• Experience in an administrative role in the field of child development

Knowledge
Essential

• Awareness and understanding of the specific needs of children with communication difficulties
• Knowledge of multi-disciplinary settings for children under 5years

Desirable

• Knowledge of Makaton Signing and use of visual resources to support children with communication difficulties

Skills & Abilities

• Good communication skills including verbal, written and listening skills
• Good planning and organisational skills
• Good observation skills
• Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy
• Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
• IT skills including Microsoft

Desirable

• Ability to work under pressure in a busy working environment
• Intermediate knowledge of IT systems and software programmes, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point,TEAMS
• Experience with a range of technology (Apple systems, cameras, symbol software)
• Ability to produce professional looking materials
