The appointee will work in a friendly department with Four consultants, three middle grade ( junior registrar level), one foundation year trainee, group of motivated nurse specialists (benign and cancer), administrative team (pathway coordinators, managers, multi-disciplinary team) and members of the allied emergency, medical and surgical teams
Main duties of the jobAssisting the on-call middle grade in ward rounds whilst supervising the foundation programme trainee.
Clerking new patients from emergency, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations and carrying our bed-side procedures (catheterisation, cannulations, blood tests) and being responsible for medical prescriptions.
The job offers opportunity to gain experience in the vast urological practice and there will be rostered activity to assist in operating theatres, diagnostic clinics - flexible cystoscopy, supervised work in outpatients clinics and pre-anaesthetic assessment clinics.
The appointee will be responsible for maintaining accurate clinical notes, completing discharge summaries and onward referral letters.
This job allows for collaboration and liaison - with allied faculties, clinical personnel of varying levels, auxiliary staff, and allied health personnel, medical and nursing students, and of course patients and their families. So good communications in explaining diagnosis and management plans is essential

Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesThe post-holder will be expected to participate fully in the clinical work of the department, providing high standards of care for both in-patients and outpatients. The usual working hours are 0800 to 1700 hours. This job does not offer an on-call banding but for those with experience an opportunity to join the surgical SHO shift could be negotiated. Out of hours patients are seen initially by the general surgical SHO on-call and referred to the middle grade urological cover who is on-call from home from Royal London Hospital. Patients staying in Newham University Hospital overnight are handed over by the surgical SHO at 0800 hours.
The responsibility of the hand-over, ward round, in-patient care and clerking of the emergency patients with the support of the on-call registrar and the help of the foundation year trainee, will be the prime job. Safe hand-over (virtual or face to face) of the patients admitted over night or staying over the weekend will be the post-holders responsibility. This will be shared with the foundation year trainee.
The appointee will be given the opportunity and will be encouraged to gain experience in core and diagnostic Urology, besides acute Urological emergencies, which will be helpful in progressing to speciality training. A tailored clinical programme to help out-patients clinic work, helping pre- aesthetic assessment clinics, helping with flexible cystoscopies and part-taking in day case surgeries is in place.
