We are looking for an autonomous practitioner with an enthusiasm and motivation for providing the highest quality care to the children attending the Bristol Children's Emergency Department.
The Children's Emergency Department at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children sees around 50000 children from Bristol and the surrounding area. We are the major trauma centre for the South West of England. As the tertiary regional Children's Hospital we have many different medical and surgical specialities based within the Children's Hospital. As an autonomous Nurse Practitioner in the Children's Emergency Department you will be have the opportunity to utilise your clinical skills and expertise seeing a diverse variety of presentations from the whole spectrum of specialities. There are also opportunities to be involved in audit, research and ongoing departmental developments.
The role encompasses the four pillars of clinical practice (clinical practice, education, leadership and research) and the post holder will be supported to deliver the Trust objectives through behaviours which demonstrate our Trust values.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will act as a senior healthcare professional within the Children's Emergency Department and provide support to the Enhanced Practitioner workforce in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, and be identifiable, highly visible, and accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance advice and support.
Successful applicants will need as a minimum to have successfully completed or at the end-point of a recognised course for autonomous practice in the emergency setting. They will work amongst a dynamic, enthusiastic and supportive multidisciplinary team, assessing and diagnosing children that attend the department with illness and injury. Person SpecificationEducation and RegistrationEssential- Active Professional Registered Qualification with a Professional body e.g., NMC, HCPC
- Post registration qualifications/CPD in area of practice as a minimum i.e. Paediatric Emergency care
- Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Level 6 or above
- Proven leadership experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation
Desirable- Non-Medical prescriber (If appropriate for statutory profession and role).
Knowledge Skills & AbilitiesEssential- Hold post registration qualification/CPD as a minimum for area of practice. This is recommended to be the Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Level 6 qualification
- Utilise advanced clinical skills within an interdepartmental and / or multidisciplinary team to ensure that patients within the Children's Emergency Department receive holistic, timely and high-quality clinical care.
- Exercise autonomous clinical practice, high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care, in accordance with their scope of practice.
- Draw on the four pillars of practice to lead and influence improvements to standards of care.
- Develop a culture of organisational learning to inspire future and existing staff.
- Support or Lead on the improvement of clinical care though clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research in collaboration with clinical and academic colleagues.
