Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Health (OH) and Wellbeing team as an OH Senior Nurse Advisor. You will play an important part in the work of the busy OH service by providing clinical, professional and managerial leadership for the team of registered nurses and technicians. The OH Senior Nurse Advisor will help to ensure a professional, timely and efficient OH service to staff across Cambridge University Hospitals and external organisations. OH qualification and experience is essential but we may consider applicants that are working towards this.

Main duties of the job
To work alongside the existing OH Senior Nurse Advisors to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the wide range of clinical services provided by the OH nursing team. Including, but not limited to, management referrals, pre-employment screening, health surveillance and infectious incident contact tracing. This role includes nursing leadership for the Royal Papworth Hospital OH contract. To provide leadership, advice, support and line management to the OH nursing team. This will include recruitment, professional development plans, appraisals, sickness and performance management processes. To undertake clinical duties to encompass the full scope of OH nursing including management referral appointments and any new initiatives as they arise. To monitor Key Performance Indicators and investigate and address any service issues in a prompt manner, escalating as required. To develop new and update existing OH protocols, PGDs, procedures and policies to ensure they are evidence based and up to date and there is consistency in approach across the nursing team. To work closely with the OH Clinical Lead, Head of Service, Senior Lead Nurse and members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), doctor team and wider OH clinical and administrative team members.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse educated to Degree level or willingness to undertake
  • Post registration Degree/Diploma in OH or related service e.g. respiratory medicine, infection control or public health
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

  • Management/leadership qualification
  • Teaching qualification

Experience
Essential
  • Occupational Health (OH) experience or experience in a related service e.g. respiratory medicine, infection control or public health
  • Proven delivery of evidence based clinical practice within OH or a related service.
  • Experience of outbreak management and testing programmes.
  • Experience of line management of nursing teams in different locations, encompassing all aspects of line management including professional development, performance and sickness management.
  • Experience of formal/informal teaching.
  • Experience of leading service development projects and change management.
  • Experience of managing clinical risk and undertaking risk assessments.

Desirable
  • Experience in leading or supporting service delivery
  • Experience of working within an NHS environment/organisation
