Job summaryWe are looking to recruit a Locum Consultant to our Community Paediatric team in Newham for 2026
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team within a multidisciplinary Community Child Health service in East London.
Consultant Community Paediatrician (up to 10PA)- the post will have a focus in Social pediatrics, working closely with the named Dr for Children in Care and the named Dr for Child Protection. This post would suit a newly qualified consultant who is looking to gain experience in Social pediatric work at senior level.
Main duties of the jobThe post holders will be expected to work within the multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive community paediatric service within Specialist Children & Young People's Services and will include responsibilities in the following areas:
- Clinical activities: a. Consultant clinics and related administrative work b. Clinical triage of referrals c. Clinical supervision as "Consultant of the Day" including Child protection d. MDT clinical discussions or meetings e. Any clinical patient-related meetings
- Working with the named drs to support development of the Children in care and child protection service.
- Teaching: a. To contribute to departmental teaching b. To contribute to teaching of medical students particularly in relation to community child health services
- Management and leadership: a. Clinical Supervision b. Clinical governance c. Management supervision d. Pathway leadership
- Audit, Quality Improvement and Service Development

Person SpecificationQualifications- Essential: MBBS, MRCPCH or equivalent, GMC registration
- Desirable: BSC in medical subject, MSc in medical subject, pHD
Professional Training- Essential: CCT In general paediatrics or within 6 months of CCT, In process of applying for Specialist registration via portfolio pathway.
- Desirable: CCT in community Child health
Clinical knowledge and experience- Essential: Experience of carrying out and supervising Child protection medical assessments, Experience of carrying out and supervising Children in Care medical assessments, 4+ years general professional training in Pediatrics, up to date with Level 3 competancies in child protection, at least 1 years experience of UK community Paediatrics
- Desirable: Competent in Austism assessment - ADOS or 3Di trarining, Trained in use of Griffiths or Bayley for developmental assesment, exeprince in assessing and managing complex children with neurological and developmenatl problem s
Medical management and leadership- Essential: experience of supervision of resident/ SAS drs, experience of productive MDT working
- Desirable: completed management course, experience of complaint handling
Quality Improvement- Essential: Completed QI project with proven benefit
- Desirable: Quality improvement Training, Experience of co-production with service users
Teaching- Essential: experience of undergraduate paediatric teaching, experience of postgraduate paediatric teaching
- Desirable: Has undertaken training in education methods
Communication skills- Essential: Good verbal skills, Ability to emphaise with people from different backgrounds, Abilty to be able to communicate effectively with parents and children
- Desirable: evince that they have championed diversity in the workplace.
