Job summary
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced PWP to take the next step in their career! As a Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner for our NHS Derbyshire Talking Therapies team, you'll work alongside the Service Lead and PWP Team Lead to support, develop, and inspire the team - while continuing to deliver high-quality, person-centred care to our service users.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver high-quality assessments and evidence-based low-intensity CBT interventions to patients referred by local GP practices.
  • Carry out rapid screenings and assessments, drawing on a sound understanding of mental health needs and associated risks.
  • Provide regular clinical and case management supervision to PWP team members and trainees.
  • Support the Team Lead with clinical supervision and line management responsibilities where needed.
  • Champion high standards of clinical record keeping in line with service policy.
  • Ensure service user needs and recovery goals remain at the heart of everything we do.
  • Actively support service development, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Lead by example - be a positive role model and promote a culture of learning and collaboration.

Job responsibilities
  • Manage a team (up to 8 staff or Trainees) and deliver to provide a service that focuses on recovery rates, pathway alignments and interpret information to support with delivery and address performance and understand the effects of recovery that is in line with the talking therapies manual and service operational policy.
  • Provide assessment and low intensity interventions to patients drawing from CBT theories and techniques to deliver services in line with the talking therapies manual and NICE guidelines.
  • Conduct risk assessment, prepare risk management plans and initiate appropriate action where indicated to ensure patient safety.
  • Signpost appropriate referrals to other service providers in the statutory and voluntary sectors and within the local community as required.
  • Assist in managing the Step 2 waiting list to manage the waits in line with the demands and needs of the service.
  • Assist in audits of clinical activity and evaluate research as required to ensure operational clinical excellence.
  • Provide clinical case management and clinical skills supervision to PWP trainees and PWP team, participate in objective setting, performance reviews and respond to agreed objectives.
  • Maintain a small caseload of service users for accreditation purposes to support operations and clinical excellence.
  • Undertake any reasonable duties/responsibilities to meet the needs of the organisation.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • Significant experience of working with people with complex mental health needs.
  • Significant experience of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem utilising low intensity CBT in the PWP role.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with trainees.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a high-volume caseload.
  • Significant experience of working within a Talking Therapies service and achieving good individual outcomes in patient work.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing teams with associated HR responsibility.
  • Substantial experience of meeting agreed performance targets in a service demonstrating clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience in robust risk management processes.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with clients who may present as highly emotive and at times present as aggressive or difficult.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential
  • Detailed understanding of PWP with continued evidence of CPD.
  • Detailed understanding of complex mental health conditions and behaviours relating to or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of local and national policies on mental health service provision.
  • Understanding of laws, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Safeguarding.
  • Understanding of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
  • Understanding of anxiety disorders and depression, the stepped care model and high-intensity step-up options to aid clinical decision making in the service and appropriate patient coordination.
  • Understanding of Talking Therapies and stepped care model.
  • Understanding working with people who have complex mental health conditions.
  • Awareness of all Talking Therapies programmes.
  • Detailed understanding of working with people who present with behaviours that challenge.
  • Understanding of clinical risks and implications for practice.
  • Understanding of the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
  • Highly developed communication skills, orally and in writing.
  • Developed relationship building skills.
  • Basic Research skills.
  • Developed interpersonal skills.
  • Basic presentational skills.
  • Developed IT skills including Office 365.

Professional Registrations
Essential
  • Hold PWP Registration and be accredited with BABCP or BPS.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Hold one of the three options: 1) Holds a PG or UG certificate in Low Intensity Interventions from a recognised BPS accredited PWP training provider. 2) MSci Applied Psychology integrated with PWP qualification with dual BPS accreditation as PWP training. 3) PWP Apprenticeship training qualification from a BPS accredited PWP training programme.
  • PWP supervisor training.

Desirable
  • Have a health-related undergraduate / postgraduate degree or relevant Care qualifications/training.
  • Have Talking Therapies Long Term Conditions training & certificate (or willingness to attend).

This is a full-time permanent role. You'll work Mondays to Fridays between the service operating hours of 8am-8pm (8am-5pm on Fridays), and you'd typically work one late shift per week (12pm-8pm). There is an expectation to work face-to-face at least one day per week from our Chesterfield base (Rowland Hill House, Boythorpe Rd, Chesterfield, S49 1HQ), with the remainder of the week offering remote flexibility depending on service needs. (This role is not eligible for sponsorship as it does not meet the requirements as set out by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.)
