An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Interventional Radiology Team at Frimley Park Hospital, part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Interventional Radiology is a rapidly developing specialty that delivers a wide range of minimally invasive, image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, providing effective alternatives to conventional surgical interventions.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe and compassionate care to patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, they will contribute to the assessment, preparation, monitoring and recovery of patients, ensuring an excellent patient experience throughout their care pathway.

The successful candidate will work closely with Consultant Interventional Radiologists, nurses, operating department practitioners and other healthcare professionals to facilitate the smooth running of the service. Many procedures are performed under local anaesthetic and conscious sedation, requiring a high standard of clinical knowledge, patient monitoring and communication skills.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within a technologically advanced and expanding service, whilst contributing to the delivery of evidence-based care and the continuous development of Interventional Radiology services across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

• Provide high-quality, patient-centred care throughout the patient pathway, from pre-assessment to discharge.
• Support the delivery of a wide range of elective and emergency interventional radiology procedures within dedicated IR suites.
• Undertake patient assessment, preparation and ongoing monitoring before, during and after procedures.
• Deliver perioperative care, undertaking both scrub and circulating roles as required.
• Provide post-procedure recovery care, ensuring patient safety, comfort and wellbeing.
• Work collaboratively with Interventional Radiologists, nurses, ODPs and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure effective service delivery.
• Assist in the care of patients undergoing a variety of image-guided procedures, including endovascular interventions, CT-guided procedures, ultrasound-guided procedures and biopsies.
• Support the administration and monitoring of conscious sedation following completion of the appropriate training and competency framework.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to Trust policies, procedures and professional standards.
• Contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based care within a specialist environment.
• Participate in service development, quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.
• Undertake specialist training and competency programmes to develop the knowledge and skills required for the role.

Professional Experience
Essential

• Any Interventional Radiology Experience
• Post Registration nursing experience in an acute clinical environment.
• Experience of caring for patients before and after clinical procedures.

Desirable

• Previous experience in Interventional Radiology, Theater, ED or another procedural environment
• Experience of managing patients with complex clinical needs in a high-acuity procedural environment

Special Requirement
Essential

• Willingness to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced procedural environment.
• Ability to undertake regular on-call duties on top of the 37.5 hours, in line with the requirements of the service.
• Ability to respond flexibly to changing service demands, including inpatient, outpatient and emergency referrals.
• Ability to work in darkened rooms daily
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including assisting with patient movement, positioning and manual handling activities as required.
• Ability to wear lead protective equipment and undertake prolonged periods of standing during Interventional Radiology procedures.
