Job summary
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated registered nurse to lead on our nationally commissioned and well established asthma biologics service. The service is ever expanding and is now treating patients with ground breaking asthma medications. The post holder will play a fundamental role in the work-up, administration of asthma biologic therapy and long-term management of our patients.

This role requires the post holder to have demonstrable specialist clinical and management skills and a special interest in patients living with asthma. You will work autonomously alongside our well-established multidisciplinary asthma team.

This role is available as a 12 month secondment or fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job
This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across the multidisciplinary team and engage confidently with a diverse range of patients and carers.The successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive and committed to contributing to service development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Experience in an ambulatory setting is desirable, and it is essential for you have confidence in working autonomously delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care .

Job responsibilities
The main focus of the role will be leading on our asthma biologics service:

• Represent the nursing voice in our asthma biologic MDM meetings
• Biologics referral triage and booking
• Telephone clinics to ensure patients are prepared to initiate biologic medications
• Face-to-face nurse-led biologics administration clinics
• Educate patients on self-administration of the medication with the aim to transition patients to self-administration in the community
• Co-ordinate with pharmacy and home care
• Manage patient queries and complications

There will also be opportunities to contribute towards the wider asthma and respiratory teams:

• Contribute to the collection of data for national audits
• Support in teaching - clinic to national level
• Assisting in managing our busy severe asthma helpline

Qualifications/ Education
Essential

• RN1 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
• Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level will be supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses to Masters level equivalent.
• Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience.

Desirable

• To have or working towards a masters degree
• To have or working towards a non medical physical assessment course

Previous experience
Essential

• Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care.
• Proven evidence of management / leadership skills and autonomous practice
• Experience of delivering patient advocacy
• Experience of audit, research & evidence- based care
• Experience of managing a team or caseload

Desirable

• Experience delivering nurse-led clinics
• Service development experience
• Experience working within an outpatient environment

Skills/ Knowledge/ Ability
Essential

• Specialist clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty.
• Evidence of teaching skills in particular teaching patients in how to manage their conditions and raise their awareness of their condition.
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills
• Able to use skills of history taking and physical assessment to direct patient care

Desirable

• Ability to interpret and analyse complex data and findings
• Undertaken clinical & nursing research
