Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an trainee senior radiographer - Mammographer to join the friendly, dynamic multi-disciplinary team at James Paget Breast Unit. Our service delivers both breast screening and symptomatic mammography, utilising state-of-the-art fully digital tomosynthesis equipment across two dedicated mammography rooms, alongside a mobile breast screening unit providing vital screening services within the community.

As part of this dedicated team, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred mammography service, supporting women at every stage of their diagnostic journey. This varied role includes working on the mobile breast screening unit, which operates across the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area. Due to the nature of this community-based service, a full driving licence and access to a car are essential, as locations may not always be accessible via public transport.

Main duties of the job
As a trainee mammographer, you will be trained to deliver high-quality four-view mammography for both breast screening and symptomatic services, producing images that meet the highest diagnostic standards while ensuring a positive, safe, and patient-centred experience. You will work efficiently within service timeframes, maintaining professionalism and compassion at all times.

Once trained you will review relevant clinical history, explain procedures clearly, obtain informed consent, and provide timely advice, reassurance, and emotional support throughout the patient journey, particularly during assessment and diagnostic clinics where sensitivity is essential.

You will practice in full accordance with NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) guidelines, quality standards, and performance measures, and adhere to national and local policies and protocols. Effective, empathetic communication with patients, colleagues, and the public is central to the role. You will also comply fully with Trust Health and Safety policies and consistently demonstrate and promote the Trust's values and behaviours as a professional ambassador for JPUH

Job responsibilities
As a trainee senior radiographer - mammographer at James Paget Breast Unit, you will deliver highquality fourview mammography for both breast screening and symptomatic services, ensuring excellent diagnostic standards and a compassionate, patientcentred experience. You will once trained review clinical history, explain procedures, obtain informed consent, and provide appropriate support and reassurance throughout the patient pathway. The role includes working in line with NHS Breast Screening Programme guidelines, contributing to training and supervision of students where required, participating in flexible working patterns, and consistently upholding Trust policies, health and safety standards, and values. Qualifications
Essential
  • Demonstrable post qualification experience in diagnostic radiography
  • HCPC Registration

Desirable
  • Good command of the English language with a good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Evidence of recent relevant CPD

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Knowledge of Breast Screening Programme
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality
  • An understanding of quality management systems

Desirable
  • Understanding of principles of quality assurance

Skills
Essential
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work well as a member of a Team
  • UK Driving Licence

Desirable
  • Demonstrates ability to be tactful and diplomatic
