Job Summary
As an Occupational Health Nurse you will provide OH clinical support to the development of the OH Service. You will work proactively to support the Nurse Manager in the delivery of a high quality Occupational Health service by working autonomously to provide a comprehensive range of clinical services required under the six NHS OH core services of prevention, timely intervention, rehabilitation, health assessments for work, promotion of health & well-being and teaching & training to staff of Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust (KGH) and external businesses.

Main duties of the job
We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse to join the existing clinical team in Occupational Health. The role will encompass pre-placement health screening, venepuncture, the administration of vaccinations, health surveillance following contamination incidents, industrial health surveillance such as audiometry and spirometry etc. as required. You will be an NMC Registered Nurse, with experience in NHS Occupational Health setting. An interest in the specialty and knowledge of Health, Safety and Wellbeing would be desirable. You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, have excellent communication and team working skills and have the ability to manage your own workload. You must have demonstrable experience and proven knowledge in the use of Microsoft office (Word, Excel and Outlook) - full training will be given regarding our specialist Occupational Health IT system. We are now a paper light environment and therefore the role will have a substantial amount of computer-based work. You may be required to travel to other locations and transport equipment off-site therefore own transport and independent mobility is essential. Person Specification
Education, Training & Qualifications
  • Essential: Educated to degree level or equivalent level of education, training or experience
  • Essential: NMC Registered General Nurse
  • Essential: Venepuncture Expansion of practice
  • Essential: BLS and Anaphylaxis training
  • Essential: Evidence of continuing professional development to degree level or equivalent.
  • Desirable: NEBOSH certificate
  • Desirable: Immunisation Training

Knowledge & Experience
  • Essential: Experience of working within an NHS clinical environment
  • Desirable: Experience in managing Contamination injuries

Skills
  • Essential: IT literacy in using Microsoft Word
  • Essential: Confident communication both written, verbally and listening skills.
  • Desirable: Clinical Systems such as ICE / Careflow
  • Desirable: Presentation skills to be able to deliver informal and formal teaching or to present information

Key Competencies/Personal Qualities and Attributes
  • Essential: Flexible and able to respond to changing situations and manage potentially distressing and sensitive situations, encounter healthcare workers who may have complex physical and/mental health issues or have been exposed to occupational exposures/incidents
  • Essential: Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload to adapt to changing priorities and different working environments (and be able to travel between sites)
  • Essential: Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Essential: Ability to travel between the Kettering and Northampton Hospital sites and other sites across the Group
