Job summary
Could you take on the role of Sister / Charge Nurse on L19? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the team on L19. L19 is a cardiology admission ward, and the ward admits patients from a variety of clinical and non-clinical areas with both acute and chronic heart problems.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic staff member who will work well as part of the multi-disciplinary team, maintaining high standards of clinical practice while supporting staff on a shift by shift basis. The successful applicant will be able to rise to the challenge of a busy ward environment and possess the energy and drive required to support the Senior Staff in ensuring the highest quality care is delivered. The candidate would need to be flexible and have the ability to embrace change. The post requires the successful candidate to make difficult decisions and manage challenging conversations.

This post is part time 30 hours per week.

Main duties of the job
  • Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for childrens areas (Level 1 or 2)
  • A post registration qualification related to cardiac surgery / cardiology eg ecg course, deteriorating patients knowledge, diabetes management, infection prevention knowledge.
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification (Desirable)
  • Mental health / wellbeing experience / training (Desirable)
  • Leadership skills courses (Desirable)
  • Cardiothoracic / cardiology course (Desirable)
  • Significant post registration experience at staff nurse level or equivalent
  • An ability to be an advocate for patients and colleagues and to escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Competency and experience in co-ordinating the ward.
  • Clinical Experience within the specialty (Desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Current issues in health and social care
  • Skills and knowledge required to lead and develop team members (Desirable)

Why you should join our Team
The cardiology service at the Leeds General Infirmary is a fast paced, high volume, complex specialty caring for patients with a broad range of cardiology conditions such as coronary heart disease, arrhythmia management, heart failure, TAVI patients pre and post-operative and complex congenital patients all fall under our remit.

The successful candidate will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with the 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward / department. They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team.

The jobholder is responsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward or department’s philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through assisting with managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will support the cost effective use of resources.

What you will bring to the role
