Job summaryWe are seeking a dynamic and motivated Band 6 Respiratory Sister/Charge Nurse to join our busy and forward-thinking Respiratory Ward at MMUH. Our ward specialises in the care of patients with a wide range of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including both infectious and non-infectious diseases.
As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting our dedicated nursing team, delivering high-quality patient care. Our ward is equipped to manage advanced ventilation techniques such as non-invasive ventilation (NIV), high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO), and tracheostomies, as well as managing patients with chest drains and complex respiratory needs.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) and community services to ensure the best possible patient journey from admission through to discharge and ongoing care. Key responsibilities include coordinating patient care, maintaining clinical standards, and providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior staff.
Main duties of the job- Advanced Respiratory Care: Oversee care for patients requiring non-invasive ventilation (NIV), high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO), tracheostomies, and chest drains.
- Care Coordination: Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and community services to plan and deliver individualized care, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and smooth transitions across services.
- Staff Development: Mentor and support junior nurses through training, appraisals, and personal development. Promote continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
- Communication: Ensure effective communication with patients, families, and the MDT regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in audits and quality initiatives to improve care delivery and patient safety. Help implement necessary changes in practice.
- Risk Management: Assess and manage clinical risks, ensuring patient safety protocols are followed, and incidents are reported appropriately.
- Resource Management: Assist with the allocation of staff and resources to ensure efficient service delivery without compromising patient care.
- Patient Education: Provide education to patients and families about respiratory care and treatment, encouraging self-management where appropriate.
